Flor de Marķa
Barreto Tosi

CSW's Field Coordinator:

Flor de Marķa Barreto Tosi is our Program Field Coordinator; her 6 hectare farm and rustic lodge serve as CSW's rural base for both classroom and field research activities. As a practicing ecologist, she provides students with an orientation to the relationships between humans and the natural environment. Ms. Barreto grew up in Peru's coastal capital, Lima. She travelled extensively as a youth, and in 1979 decided to settle down and establish her own ecological ranch where she has dedicated her life to organic farming, dairy production, and domestic animal raising (including aplacas and guinea pigs). The ranch incorporates alternative energy systems dependent upon solar and wind sources. Ms. Barreto is a self-taught architect who has designed and built the structures on her land using traditional materials of stone, adobe, and wood. Since 1992 she has been hosting guests at her lodge known as, "La Casa De Pocha." She receives national and international groups and individuals interested in ecology and the sociocultural traditions of the region.
